NIF Micro Windmill
To design a Micro-windmill that can harness energy in non- conventional situations like trains and bus windows, apartments etc. This micro-windmill has to be compact and portable.
In collaboration with National Innovation Foundation (NIF), which is an autonomous body committed to take forward ideas developed by grassroots innovators, I worked in a group to develop this concept of micro windmills. The innovator Mr. N. Satyanarayana had this idea of using windmills in compact form and can be mass produced and promoted for its use to conserve resources by switching over to wind energy.

Brief
To design a micro windmill that generates power sufficient to charge a mobile phone battery. This can be attached to vehicles like auto rickshaws, buses and even trains while travelling or during calamities like floods or power cuts. Even while camping or fishing when there is no access to electricity, this product will be useful.
Generator Design
We tried making customized generator instead of using available DC motors to get less torque and better rpm.
Materials: Copper coil, neodymium magnets, PVC cap
Materials: Copper coil, neodymium magnets, PVC cap
Fan Design
Based on applications we made prototypes for impeller and fan.
Prototypes
Both the prototypes have been tested, giving output of 5-6 V, able to charge mobile phone battery.
Features:
Features:
- Compact in size
- Portable to carry around
- Light in weight
- With the wooden clamp provided it can be fixed on windows
- Guide-ways are provided on fan for effective utilization of wind power
